WHAT WE DO

Estimates on the incidence of re-conviction among PDLs released from prison indicate that most are rearrested within three years of their release, and between 40 and 50 percent are reincarcerated within three years of their release.

A criminal conviction limits employment prospects, public housing assistance and social services. Most, upon release, are left in the streets to survive, and they fall prey to the same dangers that led them to prison.

The main goal of the House of Refuge facility is to reduce the number or rate of returns to prison, increase chances of successful reentry, and ex-PDL reintegration into the mainstream society through a comprehensive program of caring, healing, spiritual reformation, teaching, and schooling.
